There was a secluded tribe of wood elves living far north in the Cold woods, on the mountain edges. The tribe survives primarily on hunting during the winter and foraging during the short summers.
They have been there for eons and have a deep connection to the cold northern forests. Although exellents trackers in the frosted forests and mountains, they sometimes venture south to visit other wood elf societies and wander in the green woods inhabited by their kin.
A few entries found in old adventurers notes describes seeing elves going down hill slopes on carved boards, drastically speeding up their down hill travels. All scarse records regarding this northern tribe however, come to an abrupt end untill around 100 years ago. The last scroll describe a ferocious conflict between elves and frost giants.
Broken by grief Varyss Shalandalan, the sole survivor of his northern tribe roamed the woods until he found other wood elf tribes where he could stay. He served in the wood elf military where he mastered his simple and martial weapon skills and tempered his hatred for losing his entire tribe.
After a few years of service he went north again. Allthough not filled with hatred as before. He could not forget what happened to his people. Due to his grudge on frost giants, Varyss learned the language of both the giants and their arc enemies, the dragons in his travels.
Until now he has been roaming the north, earning his keep as a hired bow. Of last, he has been travelling to the village of Nightstone to discuss a truce between the local villagers and a nearby tribe of wood elves before it escalates any further.
