Nightstone

Heroes: Caerwyn, Rattler, Varyss, Vigath

The Heroes are on their way to the town Nightstone, either returning home, on a mission, or just looking for adventure. As they approach, they spot signs of battle, and goblin tracks. Investigating the town reveals that the place has been abandoned by its inhabitants, large boulders have destroyed several buildings, and a band of goblins roams free among the dirt roads.

When the Heroes capture a few of the creatures, the story they tell is hard to believe, but impossible to dismiss. The town was attacked by a flying citadel, its cloud giants owners dropping boulders from high above on the powerless townsfolk, who decided to abandon the town and find refuge in the wilderness. The giants then landed and took the fabled Nightstone, the mystical stone giving the town its name. As the giants left with their prize, the goblin band entered the unguarded town, and begun pillaging.

The Heroes kill what goblin they find, and rescue a lonely survivor, a mysterious woman of dubious allegiance. They then reach the keep, where they find four guards watching over the corpse of the town leader, Lady Velrosa Nandar (Caerwyn's mother).

The cleric mourns his mother, and swears revenge. The Heroes rest for awhile, and plan to go looking for the escaped townsfolk, in order to rebuild the crippled town.
